The STEM Living-Learning Center is a supportive community for first-year students interested in STEM. Each year, a small number of returning students choose to live in the LLC and serve as floor leaders and peer mentors.

How to apply
Students should indicate an interest in the STEM LLC in their housing application. In your application, make sure to:
- Add the “STEM LLC” to your preferences on your housing application
- Complete the LLC application that appears in your to-do list
If you've already applied for housing, simply log back into your housing application and update your preferences to indicate "STEM LLC." Then, complete the STEM application that appears in your to-do list. Please note that updating your preferences does not change your initial application date.
Living amenities
The STEM Living-Learning Center is located in Forest Quad, part of the Southeast neighborhood. This location is a convenient choice for STEM majors as many of the science, technology, and mathematics buildings on campus are nearby. Plus, Forest offers an in-building media library, dance studio, game room, and more. Forest Eatery is one of the largest dining facilities on campus, providing a variety of microrestaurants.
- The STEM LLC offers doubles and singles.
- There is a STEM community kitchenette available on the floor, complete with a refrigerator, oven, microwave, and storage cabinets.
- The bathrooms on the floors are single occupancy community.
Our requirements for applicants
To foster a supportive space to live and learn, there are two requirements to join the STEM Living-Learning Center:
Your demonstrated interest and willingness to learn more about STEM
The STEM LLC accepts undergraduate students with a variety of majors and academic interests, including engineering, computer science, informatics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, astronomy, physics, geological sciences, cognitive science, neuroscience, and more.
Enrollment in two required courses during your first fall semester
All STEM LLC residents are required to enroll in both a First Year Seminar of their choosing during the first eight-weeks and the STEM LLC Seminar during the second eight-weeks of the fall semester. This sequence of courses helps new students cultivate the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful student at IU and learn about helpful resources to explore STEM academic and career paths.
Cost of living
Forest is in the Standard Cost Category. For specific housing rates, please refer to the official IU Housing website.
In addition, all members of the STEM LLC are required to pay a $100 annual fee to help cover the costs of community events and programs.
