The STEM Living-Learning Center is a supportive community for first-year students interested in STEM. Each year, a small number of returning students choose to live in the LLC and serve as floor leaders and peer mentors.

How to apply
Students should indicate an interest in the STEM LLC in their housing application. In your application, make sure to:
- Add the “STEM LLC” to your preferences on your housing application
- Complete the LLC application that appears in your to-do list
If you've already applied for housing, simply log back into your housing application and update your preferences to indicate "STEM LLC." Then, complete the STEM application that appears in your to-do list. Please note that updating your preferences does not change your initial application date.

Living amenities
The STEM Living-Learning Center is located in Forest Quad, part of the Southeast neighborhood. This location is a convenient choice for STEM majors as many of the science, technology, and mathematics buildings on campus are nearby. Plus, Forest offers an in-building media library, dance studio, game room, and more. Forest Eatery is one of the largest dining facilities on campus, providing a variety of microrestaurants.
- The STEM LLC offers doubles and singles.
- There is a STEM community kitchenette available on the floor, complete with a refrigerator, oven, microwave, and storage cabinets.
- The bathrooms on the floors are single occupancy community.
Our requirements for applicants
To foster a supportive space to live and learn, there are two requirements to join the STEM Living-Learning Center:
Your demonstrated interest and active engagement in the STEM LLC community
The STEM LLC welcomes undergraduate students with a wide range of majors, academic interests, and future goals. As an interdisciplinary community, the STEM LLC is open to students pursuing STEM majors as well as students in other fields who want to incorporate STEM-related knowledge, skills, research, or problem-solving into their future pathways. Students do not need to have every step figured out to join. What matters most is a genuine interest in learning more about STEM and a willingness to be an active member of the LLC experience. Residents are expected to participate in STEM LLC programs, workshops, and community-building opportunities throughout the year, where they can connect with peer mentors, faculty, campus resources, research opportunities, and other students exploring STEM at IU and beyond.
Enrollment in required STEM LLC seminar courses during your first year
All STEM LLC residents are required to enroll in a one-credit 13-week fall seminar, COLL-X 294 STEM Residential Seminar – Part I, designed to help students cultivate the skills, knowledge, and connections needed to succeed at IU while exploring STEM-related academic, research, and career pathways. The fall seminar supports students’ transition to college through topics such as academic success, self-assessment, campus resources, career portfolio preparation, research planning, and transferable skill development. STEM LLC residents should also expect to participate in a one-credit spring seminar experience that continues this first-year learning sequence with a stronger focus on professional development and career readiness. Additional details about the spring seminar will be shared with residents as they become available.
Cost of living
Forest is in the Standard Cost Category. For specific housing rates, please refer to the official IU Housing website.
In addition, all members of the STEM LLC are required to pay a $100 annual fee to help cover the costs of community events and programs.
