The Academic Reinstatement process for students who have been academically dismissed from IU Bloomington begins in Undergraduate Education (UE). Students who petition for academic reinstatement will be expected to provide evidence that they can be successful in courses at the university level. Undergraduate Education will help students navigate the reinstatement process and connect them to appropriate support resources and academic advisors in their intended academic unit. For more information, see the IU Bloomington Academic Standing for Undergraduate Students (#6).
The reinstatement process will follow the guidelines and recommendations of the academic school that the student intends to reenter, or enter a different unit from their original academic unit. Note that each unit has different deadlines for reinstatement for the spring, summer, and fall terms. See reinstatement information by school for specifics.
IU Bloomington's Fresh Start grade forgiveness policy may be an option to consider if you have been away from IUB for three years or more. If you have been academically dismissed and qualify for Fresh Start, you still need to submit a Reinstatement petition and be approved for reinstatement in order to be eligible to return.
