Academic and professional growth

During your first year in the LLC, you will complete a First-Year Seminar and a STEM LLC seminar designed to help you build the academic and professional skills needed to succeed at IU and beyond, while also introducing you to the wide variety of career options in STEM fields.
As a resident, you’ll receive personalized guidance to help you connect with the experiential learning opportunities that match your interests both on campus and beyond. These hands-on experiences outside of the classroom will help you explore potential pathways and clarify your academic and career goals.
We also host several workshops and programs throughout the year to facilitate academic and professional development on topics, including:
- How to create an effective research poster
- Career possibilities for STEM majors
- Current issues in STEM fields
Mentoring connections
You will participate in STEM mentoring groups with faculty and peer mentors. You’ll meet with them regularly to discuss your academic goals, research opportunities, careers and professional development, and how to balance your work and life.
Graduate student tutors are regularly available to answer your science and math questions, including for the 300- and 400-level courses.
Building networks
We host several events each year to help you build your personal and professional network. Events range from informal luncheons, trips, and tours to lecture series, workshops, panels and round table discussions. These gatherings offer a space to build relationships with faculty, visiting scholars, and notable professionals from STEM fields.
