Academic Advising

Guidance along the academic journey

Whether they're deciding on an elective, looking to graduate early, or just picking a major, all Hoosiers have access to the assistance they need from IU Bloomington.

The Bloomington campus and its many schools is home to countless advisors, all just a few clicks away from an appointment, virtual or sit-down.

Support from day one

Advising for IU Bloomington students starts when they first arrive on campus and continues throughout that first year. Attendees at New Student Orientation meet with an advisor to register for their first semester of classes.

Pre-advising tools

IU Bloomington has developed multiple tools and resources for students to prepare for their advising appointments:

  • The iGPS degree map gives students a four-year outline of classes and requirements for graduation for individual majors.
  • Use the Explore Programs tool for descriptions, degree requirements and recommended first step for all IU Bloomington majors.
